Recasting

Recasting

When a child mispronounces a word, repeating the word corectly is called "recasting".

When the child asks for a "samwich" ask him what kind of "sandwich" he wants, emphasizing the mispronounced portion. This is called "recasting" and helps the child learn the correct pronunciation.  Don't repeat the mistake even though you may think it is cute. If the child doesn't pronounce the word correctly, it will be difficult to read or write the word.
